Karuppu kavuni rice is also called forbidden rice or “EMPEROR’S RICE” (its name because it was once reserved for the Chinese emperor to ensure his health and longevity, and forbidden to anyone else.) is gaining popularity for its high levels of antioxidants and superior nutritional value. It is mainly grown in the north east region and southern parts of india specially tamilnadu. Crop duration 150-155 days and suitable season for growing this variety is August to January. Suitable to direct sowing, its height till 5 feet escalating a nutty and sweet fruity flavour. Cooked as weight loss porridge, sweet pongal, puttu, soup, idli, dosa, veg pulao, kavuni payasam, halwa etc.
